MARCUS D. WILEY

Many years ago when most people were just catching on to ‘ Go Green’ to keep the environment Eco Friendly, comedian Marcus D. Wiley had already made his contribution by injecting healthy laughter to the masses through “Clean Comedy.”

Fast forward a decade later he is now co-host to a Nationally Acclaimed Syndicated radio show airing in fifty-two of the nation’s most popular cities, “The Yolanda Adam’s Morning Show”; where millions tune in to listen and can’t seem to get enough of Marcus D. Wiley’s alter ego “Bishop Secular” who soars on shrewd satire of the religious prosperity movement.

Marcus D. Wiley rose to fame almost five years ago when Grammy Award Winning Yolanda Adams asked him to join her team as her co-host. Since his inception to the show Mr. Wiley’s ubiquitous appeal has revolutionized and enticed the fashion savvy and culturally cognizant generation’s from young to old.

He along with his cast mates have become so prevalent that even distinguished Award Show Ceremonies such as The Stellar Awards has taken notice and presented the entire cast of “The Yolanda Adams Morning Show” with the 2011 Stellar’s “Broadcaster of The Year Award.”

When Wiley isn’t on air spreading contagious laughter to the airwaves with his trend setting approach that clean comedy can be sexy and edgy, he can be found traveling around the nation performing standup to sell out audiences.

One might wonder “Where” a comedian turned co-host who seems to have just fallen from the sky actually came from, and “How” is he able to make his audience cry and laugh all at the same time without using the N’word, or any profanity for that matter?

Maybe it was the strong family values that were preached to him on a regular basis by his grandparents who are still alive and have been happily married for over Fifty-Years. In fact, some of his material he uses on stage comes straight from childhood memories and happy times spent with his parents and grandparents.

If you ask this Texas born and raised Comedian what kind of childhood he had. He will quickly tell you “It was like the sitcom ‘The Jefferson’s.’ When I was nine years old my mom married a Pastor. She became a ‘First Lady’ and I became a ‘Preacher’s Son.’ I will never forget the day he picked me and my mom up in a stretched limousine; we felt like we were in an episode of ‘The Jefferson’s.’ We had moved on up.” States Wiley.

Mr. Wiley’s “Triple Threat” status in the entertainment industry comes from three notables Co-host, Comedian and CEO of Wileywood Entertainment, LLC; a production and distribution company responsible for saturating the public with his highly gabbed about CD’s and DVD titles including; “Pretty Women Never Get Married, How to Live Holy When You’re Horny, Acting Married and the Devil Aint the Only One Busy.” There are plans this year to expand his brand by pursuing appearances in television commercials and of adding acting to his list of accomplishments.

Expect to see more of Marcus D. Wiley in a city near you soon! Or to book Mr. Wiley go to www.marcusdwiley.com or follow him on Twitter @MarcusDWiley .

Popular DC-based gospel artist Earnest Pugh is getting quite comfortable on the Billboard charts. Gospel’s new leading man recently dropped his fourth CD, Earnestly Yours and the project has experienced phenomenal success with the new release topping the Billboard Top Gospel Chart. The Black Smoke Music project has been catapulted by the smash lead single, “I Need Your Glory”, a riveting song delivered exquisitely by the gospel balladeer.

The single continues to glide up the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart and is currently at the #3 spot, its highest placement to date. The single is also at #3 on the Media Base gospel radio airplay chart and is also one of the fastest-selling gospel digital downloads this year. This week, the project also moves to #3 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums Chart, secure in its Top 5 positioning.

Earnest Pugh got his start in gospel music singing with pioneer O’landa Draper in his hometown of Memphis. After the release his 2006 debut, he caught the attention of the industry with the hit, “Wrapped Up, Tied Up, Tangled Up”. He became a household name in the genre with the 2009 release of “Rain On Us”, which charted in the Top 10 as one of Billboard’s Top Gospel Songs of 2010. The gospel crooner, who now lives in the D.C. area, has appeared on BET’s Celebration of Gospel and the Trinity Broadcasting Network’s Praise The Lord program.

The Rev. Howard Creecy, Jr., a Baptist preacher chosen early this year as the new president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, died suddenly Thursday (July 28) at the age of 57. His death means the civil rights organization founded by the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. will go through another unexpected transition.<!–more–> Creecy became president after the Rev. Bernice King, the founder’s daughter, decided in January not to assume the presidency, citing a leadership clash. SCLC leaders expressed shock at Creecy’s death of a suspected heart attack but vowed to continue the work he started.”He was a strong leader but he has laid the groundwork for us to move forward in a way that we probably haven’t been able to in the past,” said Damien Conners, program director of the Atlanta-based organization. Conners said the SCLC will sponsor a Washington event on jobs and political advocacy — timed to the late August dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial — and a fall campaign on college campuses to boost funding of education. Isaac Newton Farris Jr., King’s nephew, will become interim president. In a statement, Farris credited Creecy with revitalizing the SCLC, calling him “a prophetic leader who deeply inspired me along with countless others across this great nation and world.” Creecy, a third-generation preacher, was pastor of The Olivet Church in the Atlanta suburb of Fayetteville, Ga. The Rev. Carroll Baltimore, president of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, called Creecy “one of PNBC’s greatest pastors.”

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., June 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — In honor of Black Music Month, Capitol/EMI has released a new digital compilation, The Soul Of Capitol Records: Rare & Well-Done (Vol. 1). The collection, available now for download purchase from all major digital service providers, features 20 songs that are noteworthy not only for their quality, but also for their rarity.

The collection includes “Can’t She Tell,” a Billy Preston song co-written by Sly Stone, and “Turn Away From Me,” an understated collectible by Patti Drew. Other gems include “Lover And A Friend” by the renowned Eddie Bo & Inez Cheatham, and ”Evidence,” one of many intoxicating singles recorded by Patrice Holloway during her stint at Capitol Records in the late 1960s & early ’70s.

In addition to the new ‘Rare & Well-Done’ compilation, several classic albums and collections by legendary soul artists have recently been made available for download purchase for the first time by Capitol/EMI. Timeless albums from Etta James, Ike &Tina Turner, The Ohio Players, Irma Thomas, and Johnny Guitar Watson are just a few of the soul staples that are now digitally available and featured during the month-long celebration.

As a means to overcome adversity, African-American artists expressed themselves by creating timeless music that continues to carry a lasting legacy. For nearly three decades, Black Music Month has played a critical role in rekindling and preserving the rich musical history of soul music pioneers.

“Rejoice and Shout,” traces the development of the gospel music into today’s blues, swing, soul, rap and hip hop, and contemporary gospel.

Don McGlynn, director of the film whose works also include “The Howlin’ Wolf Story,” “The Legend of Teddy Edwards,” and “Charles Mingus: Triumph of the Underdog” , expressed he had “never had a film that was this sprawling and huge.”

The documentary takes its root in the America South, where music provided an escape and freedom from slavery, hatred and violence.

Joe Lauro, president of film history, asserts that this history needed to be told. Since his childhood he has collected recordings of music dating as far back as the 1925. After 10 years of painstaking research, he was able to compile about 150 hours of gospel material.

“In those 10 years I just kept acquiring and searching for archival material that became the core of ‘Rejoice and Shout.’ So in one way the 10 years that it took to make it came in handy because we found 150 hours of material to choose from,” Lauro said.

Last year, Maurice Robinson, Jamal Parris, Anthony Flagg and Spencer LeGrande alleged Long used church money to buy them over-the-top gifts and trips in attempt to lure them into sexual relations.
Megachurch pastor Brady Boyd asks readers the tough question that has plagued many pastors and congregations alike, touching upon a rather sensitive subject for most religious leaders.

“Have we, as American pastors, given up our calling as shepherds and unknowingly become fast food entrepreneurs who are building a religious business and not a church?” the Colorado pastor posed on his blog.

Witnessing the ever-growing trend for pastors to be focused primarily on the numbers – number of people attending their church – Boyd desired to shift the internal conversations happening among leaders and spark some honest debate on the subject of church marketing and mass numbers.

“Church is not a product to be consumed like a gym membership, but rather a holy gathering of sinners who are becoming saints because of grace,” he penned. “We want to be what Eugene Peterson calls ‘a company of pastors’ and not a company of shopkeepers.”
